Sultanganj: Gateway to Shravani Mela

Sultanganj is a city located in the Bhagalpur district of the India state of Bihar. It is situated on the south bank of Ganga river, 25 km west of Bhagalpur city. Shravani Mela is a month-long festival that is celebrated in July – August of every year by devotees of Lord Shiva. Devotees from all over the world come to this holy place and start their 100+ KM journey to another shrine city of Deoghar in Jharkhand over the foot.

A famous Lord Shiva temple, Ajgaivinath Temple is situated in the streams (watercourse) of river Ganges. This is a holy place where Jahnu Sage lived and the river Ganges flows northward (Uttarvaahini Ganges) which is considered to be auspicious. Ancient temple of Shiva on top of hill at bed of River Ganga at Sultanganj attracts million pilgrims. Every year pilgrims who take Ganga’s water (Sacred Ganga Jal) from Sultanganj on their way to pray Lord Shiva in Deoghar (Babadham Temple).
